Before commencing your study at CUHK, please read the following important information.
With effect from the academic year 2021-22, degree conferment has been decoupled from the Congregation/Graduation ceremonies in December/November. There are three specified dates in a calendar year for conferment of applicable Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral degrees awarded by the University, namely 31 March, 31 July, and 15 October. The dates to be printed on the graduate certificates will correspond to the three degree conferment dates on 31 March, 31 July and 15 October, except for degrees conferred on 15 October, graduates will be given two options regarding the dates to be printed on their graduate certificates: (i) 15 October; and (ii) 15 November. Under this arrangement, students who have fulfilled all graduation requirements will have their degree conferred at an earlier date, which will facilitate their further studies or employment needs. Students may choose to postpone their degree conferment date.
Please note that from 2024-25 academic year onwards, there will not be any arrangement for deferral of degree conferment date. Following the University’s degree conferment arrangement, once a student has satisfied all graduation requirements, the nearest degree conferment date in the year concerned will be taken as the default degree conferment date.

If only one programme recommends admitting the applicant, he/she will receive one offer without the option mentioned. He/She may choose to decline the offer and wait for results of later admission rounds of the other programme. However, this decision is irrevocable, as this place will be offered to another applicant. Most programmes make offers in earlier rounds and will only continue to make offers if places are left. If you wish to inquire about your other application(s), please contact the relevant Division.
Your PGS award/fellowship will only take effect from the Admission Date AND after your registration is completed, i.e. after the payment of the admission deposit and fulfilment of the admission condition(s). If you complete your registration after the Admission Date, PGS award/fellowship will be payable counting from your registration date.
According to Clause 3.4 of the General Regulations Governing Postgraduate Studies: “A student shall not be registered simultaneously for another programme of studies leading to the award of a degree, diploma or certificate at this University or at any other tertiary institution unless an application has been submitted in advance to the Graduate Division concerned, endorsed by the Faculty concerned and approved by the Graduate Council. A student in breach of this regulation shall be required to discontinue studies at this University.”
Applications for concurrent registration must be submitted before registration with CUHK. You can download the application form from the Online Application System for Postgraduate Programmes. Your registration will only be accepted if either your concurrent registration is approved or you have withdrawn from the other programme.
According to Clause 3.5 of the General Regulations Governing Postgraduate Studies: “A student registered for a full-time programme of studies shall not take up any full-time employment, paid or unpaid, during term time except with prior permission of the Graduate Council. Recipient of a Postgraduate Studentship shall not take up full-time or part-time employment, except with prior permission of the Graduate Council.”
Students of full-time programmes who wish to take up full-time employment (or full-time/part-time employment for PGS holders) should seek approval from the Graduate Division and Graduate Council by submitting a written application to the Head of the Graduate Division concerned before taking up the employment.
